Mainstone is a Small (Companion) Animal practice, devoting its time to the care and welfare of domestic pets, ranging from cats and dogs, rabbits and various cage pets, to birds, fish and 'exotics' such as reptiles and amphibians.
The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
The RCVS is the governing body of the veterinary profession in Great Britain. It is also the body that monitors the quality of veterinary care that its members provide. Practices that choose to do so, may elect to be assessed by RCVS inspectors, and if successful, be granted the status of a RCVS approved practice.
What does the RCVS assessment entail?
The RCVS inspectors examine the practice in detail to ensure that the practice is safe, clean and that it provides a pleasant environment for your pet's care.
The assessment also involves inspection of all safety procedures at the practice including the storage and dispensing of medicines, practice laboratory techniques, sterilising facilities, x-ray equipment and anaesthetic machines.
To reach the standard, all veterinary staff must undergo further training during the year to keep up to date with advances in the veterinary field.
What does this mean for you, the client, and your pet?
Our practice was one of the first practices in Hampshire to be examined and granted RCVS Tier 2 status, and we have recently received our follow up inspection, which we again have passed. This means that you can be confident that your pet is being treated by staff who are up to date in their field, with excellent facilities at their disposal in a safe, caring environment.
At the clinc we treat all medical and surgical conditions and perform a wide range of orthopaedic, ophthalmic and soft tissue surgery. We have close links with a number of referral practices for those cases requiring more specialised surgery and diagnostic investigations such as MRI.
